About A Man's Diary The Most Honest Stage Play You'll Experience.
*****************************************************************
Love is… a journey without a destination.
A MAN’S DIARY- The Play, is a true story of love, happiness, heartache and pain. A naked look at one man’s pursuit of love from the good to the bad to the psychotic. Written and directed by award winning platinum artist and producer Lil Louis, A Man’s Diary is the most honest play ever written by a man about love. Based on the critically acclaimed book A Man’s Diary, the play bravely takes the audience on one man’s entire love journey from the most romantic, innocent and funniest moments, to the worst, most painful and embarrassing moments imaginable. Louis bares all, divulging secrets long considered taboo between man and woman. A Man’s Diary Play is a “visual love manual” for any man who wants real love, and a must see for any woman who wants to travel beyond the walls of ego and pride to learn what men truly feel, what they want—and what they really hide.
THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY
In 1996, I ended one of the most painful relationships I’d ever experienced. One day, while lamenting with my brother Steve, he said, “Louis, you know you have the most bizarre relationships. You should write a book about it.” Having always been very private, I initially balked at the notion. But with deeper reflection, I realized my problems had less to do with individual problems, and more to do with systemic problems between man and woman. That epiphany led me to travel back through my diaries, and I discovered a journey worth telling. Yet first I made a pact, that if I wrote it, it would be without ego or testosterone. If I cried, begged or looked like the biggest fool on earth, I was going to tell it the way it happened—as I wrote it in my diary.
The genesis of love for me was my mother and father, married over 50 years in a candle light romance. I carried that candle with me right to my first love in second grade. But with each step, I journeyed from young innocence deep into the tunnel of abuse, deceit, heartache and pain— until I was alone in the dark. Howbeit, at my darkest place, I saw a light the size of glitter, and so I walked towards my Father’s candle, until I found my way out of the tunnel. The play A Man’s Diary, howbeit raw and unsettling, is thus, the canvas God has provided me to paint with colors of hope for those who have rejected love as fairy tale, bequeath my lessons for the lost souls who have accepted pain as imminent, and change the stroke of love by using the right brush. I am honored my father has chosen me to bring to stage the life of a poor little boy from the Westside who journeyed through love, pain, abuse and despair to become a good man that believes still in love, and who with the wisdom he has accrued through his faith in God, a loving mother and father and the entire breadth of his loves can now present—A Man’s Diary: The Play.
